Ben Moore X Sam Hodgson
Mountain biking breeds different types of riders. From trail riders and downhill racers, to XC aficionados and dirt jumpers, one thing’s certain - no matter who you speak to, you’ll always find that common love for riding.
Aside from being a supporting sponsor to the Madison Saracen factory downhill team, we’re lucky enough to have two brand ambassadors for whom mountain biking is life.
Yet, they couldn’t be any more different.
Ben Moore is 28, originally from Poole, and loves riding downhill mountain bikes. His speciality lies in urban downhill, that crazy thing where riders race through empty cities as fast as possible, bouncing off man-made obstacles along the way. Speed is the ultimate goal, and that’s what Ben’s learnt to perfect over time.
Sam Hodgson is 19, from the Isle of Wight, and all about steeze. His calling is freeride MTB, but more particularly dirt jumping, so much so that he finished overall 3rd on the 2018 Dirt Wars series. Sam grew up on his parents’ farm and has been building jumps since he could remember. It was no other than Blake Samson, former Animal ambassador and now GMBN star presenter, who showed him the ropes.
The question is what happens when you give these guys a trail bike and let them loose on one of the UK’s sickest bike parks? The answer is: magic.
It was the first time the pair met, but the bromance sparked from the get go. Despite the age difference, style difference and vehicle difference (Sam’s Vauxhall Combo vs Ben’s stickered up Ford Transit), the banter kicked off almost instantly as Sam pulled out his breakfast option (leftover takeaway pizza from the night before).
While Ben is pretty much a usual here at Tidworth B1kepark, it was Sam’s first ever visit. Needless to say he was pretty stoked on the different lines on offer. After a couple of practice runs, the pair decided White Line would provide the best of both worlds and allow them to showcase the best of their ability.
We came to Tidworth expecting these guys to approach the trail completely differently, but the truth is that they both influenced each other more than even they anticipated. Ben’s scandi flicks were an instant win for Sam, while Sam’s aerial prowess inspired Ben to push his own boundaries in the air, and re-kindle his relationship with the infamous ‘Sui’ he hadn’t tried in over 3 years.
Strangers in the morning, they came out mates for life by the end of the day… That love of riding is a powerful thing.
