After taking two wins at the British Downhill Series, the Madison Saracen Factory Race Team were searching for a final push at the weekend. It was the last stop of the UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup Series in Vallnord, Andorra, and although the overall title was out of reach for Manon Carpenter, holding onto her 2nd place was top of the agenda.

Manon has had a mixed season; the formidable Rachel Atherton has blown the field away and taken an unprecedented clean sweep of wins, whilst crashes will have left her wondering what if on a few occasions.

That said it was super tight at the top and with Manon battling Aussie Tracey Hannah for the overall standing, and after a wild run down the mountain Manon secured 4th on the day, just doing enough to take 2nd for the series. A consistent season and we know Manon will be beyond pumped for the World Championships in Val Di Sole this weekend.

For the boys it was another tough day at the office. Marc Beaumont qualified but couldn’t take momentum from his BDS win into the finals and finished a respectable 30th overall. Matt Simmonds struggled and although he qualified, took 68th place after a bit of an off. Lots of lessons learnt but we know the boys will be back stronger for 2017.

A positive from the weekend was Junior rider Matt Walker making his way back into competition. After breaking his wrist just 4 weeks ago, an accelerated recovery saw Matt take part in practice and qualify 5th, but managing his injury withdrew from the finals. Matt has been selected alongside Manon to represent Great Britain this weekend for the Worlds in what’s set to be a dusty ride in Italy.

Good luck guys!
