Tom Cardy - Portugal

Animal team rider Tom Cardy recently flew off to Portugal to escape the British cold and compete in the Festival Bike dirt jumping competition. A few words from the man himself.

It's getting late in the year, and with the weather in the UK making riding difficult it was time to escape! Each year in Santarem, Portugal, the Festival bike dirt jumping contest takes place and we figured this would be a great opportunity to escape the winter blues at home and film a new video!

After taking 1st place in the contest last season, I was hoping to repeat that result again. I've been injured most of this year's season, so a good result would be massive for my confidence. With the level of riding increasing at a crazy rate, I knew it was going to be very difficult.

The whole vibe and atmosphere was amazing, everyone was having so much fun pushing their limits! After putting down my dream run in the finals, I managed to take 2nd place, which I was so stoked about. My confidence is on a high again and I can't wait for next season to start already!

To take full advantage of the great weather, we also decided to get the camera out and make a new video. The trip was only short so we didn't get too many different spots, but we took full advantage of each location whether it was street, skate park or dirt jumps. We both worked our hardest to get some of the coolest shots and tricks in the best looking locations.

Street riding is one of my favourite disciplines so to get the chance to ride in some awesome locations was great. Making videos is always so much fun, no pressure compared to the contests and the results can be much more rewarding. This was no different and has been one of the most fun little projects yet!

Landing back in the UK was freezing, but we were both so stoked on the whole trip, the contest, the video and some good times with awesome people. We can't wait for the next trip already!
