Georgie Timson's take on the Euro Surf

09 Oct

Animal team rider Georgie Timson was recently chosen to be part of the English Surf team competing in the European Surfing Championships in Casablanca, Morocco. We asked Georgie to give us the lowdown on her first experience competing in such a high caliber event.

This was my first time representing England overseas; I was super stoked to be chosen for the team. In Casablanca, we had two days before the contest to train and get used to the waves.

The opening ceremony (parade) with all the other countries was amazing; it was such a cool and exciting experience. I was apprehensive but I couldn’t wait to get in for my heat, the waves were tricky for all the competitors, it was 5-6ft and a hard paddle out.

I won my first heat, made me buzzing for my next one. Knowing the team was on the water's edge supporting me was really encouraging. I got through my second round heat coming second. It was a tough heat but I managed to get a couple of good waves and got myself through to the third heat!

The team was cheering; it was the best feeling knowing I had another chance to compete. The next day I had my round 3 heat, chuffed to be one of the 8 remaining girls still standing in the main rounds. I didn’t make that heat, but luckily I got into the repechage round 4, which gave me another shot.

Unfortunately this is where it ended for me, but I’m so happy with my result placing 11th overall in Europe.

Some of the best girls in Europe were competing; it was so inspiring to watch their abilities in the water. It was great to have Flora Lawton – Animal rider, compete alongside me also.

A massive thank you has to go to all who supported me and especially the English Surf team and Animal.
