Southern Freestyle Club Car Park Jam
Words by: James Webb
So after years of skiing at Bracknell and seeing this mound of snow sitting in the car park, we finally got the chance to put it to some good use!
As the weather has been a bit on the chilly side for some time now, all the ice scrapings off the ice rink have been building up in the John Nike Leisuresport car park. My co-coach and I at the Southern Freestyle Club put our heads together with some of the John Nike ski centre staff and thought it was about time we hosted a snow jam! We chose a night, invited a bunch of talented riders from around the UK and got a local scrap yard to hook us up with a written off Ford Focus and a skip! (Thanks A1 metal recycling!)
We had riders from Norfolk, Swadlincote, Manchester, London and a few locals. We started the build about 4pm on a rainy Friday afternoon and worked for a solid few hours until it was dark, we were wet, and the riders were ready! The riders sessioned our little scrap yard challenge until 10.30pm when we had a BBQ (courtesy of chef Webbo), a few beers and then a massive clean up mission!
Everyone had a great time on the unique set up and were all keen for it to happen again. It was a super chilled session and we got some quality shots from Kirsty Thompson and James Murray plus a short edit from Josh Birch (camera operator & editor) and Charlie Smith (camera operator). We hope to get the chance to do this again and make it bigger and better.. so keep an eye out! In the mean time please check out the edit and feel free to come down to the slope and join in our sessions (on the slope, not the car park!); Tuesdays (open session) 19.00-21.30 and Sundays (coached session) 09.00-11.00!
