On the road to recovery

As some of you may know, Blake Samson had a dodgy landing on the Action Sports Tour last month and unfortunately broke his right tibia and fibula. After just 5 weeks in recovery since his operation, he surprised us all the other day when he wondered into the office with no crutches! We’d be fibbing to you if we didn’t say that we all began to think that perhaps Blake is some sort of super human!

Blake Samson

Enough from us. Que our favourite and ever so slightly bonkers Zimbabwean:

Blake Samson

“It amazes me, being involved in a sport where I throw myself in the air with some crazy manoeuvres and then land back on earth on my bike that (until now) I have come away without getting badly injured. 10 years in the sport without a single broken bone is a massive achievement.”

“However, on the 21st June in North Devon, I was having a rad time (as usual) riding on the Animal WD-40 Action Sports Tour at Ocean Fest. The third show of the day; I chose to throw one of my favourite tricks, an Oppo 360 Down Whip. Unfortunately I didn’t spin enough and ended up facing the wrong way when landing, which caused my leg to snap.”

“So here I am”

Blake Samson

“I’m a guy that loves to be doing something all the time. So, going from full throttle in the peak of my season and having loads of exciting things coming up to suddenly stop. Be forced to take it down 5 gears and sit still for a few weeks, indoors, on my bum, has been a challenge!”

Blake Samson

“However, my outlook on this unfortunate hiccup has been a 100% positive. You can’t dwell on the ‘what ifs’ because that’s not going to help you at all.”

“The last few weeks of recovery, I have filled with reading a sweet Guy Martin autobiography (if you love motorbikes it’s a must. The guy is unreal). I’ve started to play the ukulele (so much fun) and I was also thinking of learning Spanish as well.”

Blake Samson

“We didn’t plan this but it just so happened, that Jenna A.K.A ‘the wife’ was off for two weeks, which was amazing. My first week was on my own and then two weeks with Jen nursing me was great. She is a great example of a perfect wife!”

“As well as having Jen for two weeks, my day of birth fell during my recovery. So we had a day filled with meeting my friends before finishing it all off with an evening at my Mum and Dad’s for a big BBQ! Oh and not forgetting, I also had a doctor’s appointment to remove my staples - I insisted that I remove them myself! I managed to remove the ones from my knee until I started to feel a bit woozy; the nurse had to take out the last 6 for me! It was so good to get them out and get rid of the dressing on my leg.”

Blake Samson

“So far it’s been great. Weird to say, but I’ve been productive. Since I’ve been back from the hospital, I’ve had a friend visit me every day (thank you to every single one of them) and I’ve also had lots of healing vibes and get well messages from all my friends and fans on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.”

“It’s been over a month now and it feels like the other day it happened. I think this is a good thing right?!”

Whilst we may think Blake is a super human, since his accident rumours have spread across the internet that the infamous Welsh red dragon has been awakened from his endless sleep and that it might just be, Blake!

Watch, as he steeds his Saracen Ariel down “Enter the Dragon” at Bike Park Wales.
