Our dirt jump maestro, Blake Samson was lucky enough to be invited to ride in the French Freestyle MX show and he jumped at the chance, bringing along brother Ray and buddy Grant ‘Chopper’ Fielder.
The event was held in Douai, France so Blake and the boys set off on their road trip at 5am to catch the ferry from Calais to Dover to arrive at Gayant Expo at 2pm where the event was held. Blake and the rest of the team set up the ramps and had a test ride before hitting the sack after a long old day.
The following day at 8pm, after a lot of test rides, a few bumps and bruises, a 7000 strong crowd gathered in the grand stand. With the VIP stand also full, each rider had three 10 minute rides; the first was just a ride around with one or two big tricks to warm up the crowds and the second run was bangers only. The MX guys were incredible, an absolute crowd pleaser was Edgar Torronteras’s infamous whip and 180 .
After the show all the riders were treated to champagne and strawberries, whilst attending a signing – classy aye? Feeling amped after the show and full of bubbly, the riders still had to pack down the ramps before catching a few hours kip and heading back to the UK.
